The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recently issued another guideline for travel. This new guideline mandates that masks be worn on all public transportation, including cruises.
The new order goes into effect today, February 1, 2021. It requires people to wear masks while on public transportation in the U.S., and while at transportation hubs.
The order states: “A conveyance operator transporting persons into and within the United States must require all persons onboard to wear masks for the duration of travel.” It clarifies that “into and within the United States” includes international, interstate, and intrastate waterways.
We already suspected that masks would be a requirement for cruising again. Cruise Lines have been preparing to resume sailing, but so far none have announced a return date. More and more sailings keep being suspended.
We will continue to update as more information becomes available. You can see the full CDC order here.
